Propulsion Integration Technician

Manufacturing and Test

DESCRIPTION:  As part of a unique and highly-skilled team, as a Propulsion Integration Technician, you’ll be responsible for manufacturing, assembling and testing propulsion hardware that meets Blue Origin's launch vehicle program requirements. We seek people who are passionate about space and possess a strong desire to continuously learn and improve.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Integration and test, functional verification, and troubleshooting of propulsion systems and components
  • Fabrication and maintenance of propulsion hardware and equipment
  • Fabrication, activation and maintenance of high pressure hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Installation of electrical wire harnesses and instrumentation
  • Assist engineers in reviewing design concepts, providing feedback for improvements
  • Design, fabricate and use assembly tooling
  • Review, edit and follow work instructions for complex mechanical installations
  • Safely work with chemical and/or high pressure hazardous systems
  • Support system level testing, such as proof and leak, fluid flow and functional checkouts
  • Ensure tasks are performed on schedule, safely and in a professional manner
  • Rapidly adapt to changing roles while working in a challenging high-paced work environment
  • Innovate to improve processes and increase efficiency of operations
  • Maintain inventory of parts and equipment for assembly, test and maintenance of propulsion systems
  • Typically 45 hours per week, schedule varies depending on needs, flexibility required
  • Overtime is often required for particular integration tasks or test series
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
  • 7+ years’ experience in propulsion integration and/or testing
  • Working knowledge of rocket propellants, including cryogenics, RP and hydrogen peroxide
  • Experience in aerospace, aircraft or related fields
  • Ability to interpret engineering fabrication drawings and electrical schematics
  • Ability to read, understand, and use technical manuals and reports
  • Knowledge in the proper use of different types of aerospace fittings
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to utilize hand tools, power tools and heavy equipment
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Use of precision measuring instruments and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • U.S. citizen, permanent resident alien or otherwise able to review all export-controlled technical information
 
Desired:
  • 10+ years’ experience in propulsion integration and testing
  • Associates degree
  • Knowledge of all types of inspection equipment, including bore scopes
  • A&P license or equivalent experience in integration and test of propulsion systems
  • Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts on flight hardware
  • Experience with CNC machining, MIG/TIG welding and orbital tube welding
  • Familiarity with tube fabrication (bend, flare, fittings, etc.) and pressurized system safety
  • Ability to drill close tolerance holes for fastener installation
  • Experience with 3D measurement tools, such as Faro Arms/Trackers and Verisurf software
  • Knowledge in the use of 3D CAD tools (CREO is preferred), and ability to read and interpret GD&T per ASME Y14.5M-1994 standard

 

Must be physically able to:
  • Climb ladders and stairs, and work in small, restricted areas
  • Lift and carry 25 lbs.
  • Work 1st or 2nd shift, as well as weekends and overtime, when necessary
