Avionics EMI/EMC Design and Test Engineer


DESCRIPTION: As part of a unique and highly-skilled avionics hardware team, you will lead EMI/EMC design and test activities for components and subsystems integrated on rocket launch vehicles and spacecraft.
  • Define electronics hardware test requirements and develop test plans
  • Design electronic circuits and systems for robustness when exposed to EMI/EMC/ESD and lightning 
  • Perform trade studies based on high-level requirements and environment descriptions
  • Develop models and tailor test specifications for unique environments
  • Lead design and test plan review activities, including compliance with relevant test standards
  • Validate requirements through design inspection, analysis, or test demonstration
  • Design and develop electronics hardware test fixtures
  • Conduct tests, interpret data, document results and communicate outcomes
  • Maintain and report on activity schedule, budget, and technical status
  • Develop test plans and procedures and operate instrumentation in an EMC/EMI testing facility
  • B.S. degree or higher in an appropriate engineering or physics field    
  • 5+ years of recent experience designing and testing electronics hardware systems to meet requirements of standards like MIL-STD, RTCA, FAA and CISPR
  • Experience operating RF/EMI/EMC test software and equipment such as spectrum analyzers, power meters, signal generators, amplifiers, antennas, and etc.
  • Strong analytical, modeling, simulation, test and evaluation skills relevant to design and test of electronic circuits and systems exposed to EMC/EMI/ESD and lightning environmental conditions
  • Desire to work hands-on, both independently and as part of a team, throughout the development and production phases of the product lifecycle
  • Project management skills consistent with leading a team through the complex test verification process
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong task ownership, someone who demonstrates pride in all work
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Experience designing safety critical electronic systems for EMI/EMC/ESD and lightning compliance
  • Experience defining requirements, designing circuits and performing trade studies based on high-level requirements and environments
  • Experience testing and qualifying hardware per standards like MIL-STD-1540, DO-160, or SMC-S-016
