Program Integration

DESCRIPTION: As an aerodynamics engineer, you’ll support all aspects of aerodynamic and aerothermodynamic design of our vehicles for both atmospheric and transitions to/from atmospheric flight. You’ll support the systems through their entire lifetime from early conceptual design and configuration through flight operations and sustaining engineering. You’ll be involved the development of aerodynamic models and databases for space launch and reentry vehicles for human flight using hand calculations, engineering methods, numerical methods, and detailed test methods. This position reports into the Flight Sciences team. 
  • Develop aerodynamic and aerothermodynamic data for various configurations
  • Create databases for use in trajectory, GN&C (Guidance, Navigation, and Control), and structural loads analyses using both analysis and test methods (e.g., CFD, wind tunnel testing, etc.)
  • Develop system requirements, flowdown, and verification approaches
  • Create and maintain Aerodynamic Databooks
  • Support vehicle configuration development, OML definition, and trade studies
  • Support and conduct wind tunnel tests
  • Support as-built OML evaluations, protuberance analysis, and other sustaining engineering activities
  • Develop flight test plans and operational procedures
  • BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and at least five years of experience with space vehicle aerodynamics, aerothermodynamics, or flight mechanics
  • Demonstrated experience with CFD tools, aerodynamic testing, and engineering methods (such as APAS, Missile DATCOM, MINIVER, etc.)
  • Applicant must be a United States citizen or permanent resident alien
  • Experience with CFD tools such as CFD++, FUN3D, and LAURA
  • Experience supporting wind tunnel testing, flight testing, including data reduction and post-flight data analysis
  • Experience with high lift devices, flow control, and stability and control design
  • Knowledge of MATLAB, Python, C/C++
  • Familiarity with knowledge capture systems, integrated engineering tools and rapid development processes
  • Knowledge in the use of 3D CAD tools (ProEngineer is preferred)
